Radio Wiring Guide

The Volvo4 radio cassette died in my 83 240GLE and I need to replace it. The radio (Model RX-3AQ) has a 9 pin straight connector on the back. Does any one have any idea which wire goes where? Power is ok as it is fused but the rest....... HELP!

Cheers,

Paul

will get back to you when I've looked at notes in my manual. I had to get an adaptor and rewire the non-standard Volvo wires on my 440. Have you got 9 wires. Methinks that I only had about 4 or 5 to match up when I did my radio.

Affirmative. 9 wires in the socket, another to earth and the antenna connector.

I guess 1 for power, one each (4) to speakers, one speaker earth, one accesory and one is labelled dimmer..... I guess that dims the display. And a spare. Remote for antenna motor? Trouble is, which is which. I will get there.

This is from a post on the Brickboard

formatting link
that I copied and used installing my stereo:

The year would be helpful. If you are talking light green it is constant positive. It usually goes to the trunk light too. Red is for the up signal from the radio. Brown is the dash rheostat for panel lights yellow is a dim signal to dim displays (your new sterio probably can't use this) green at the radio is constant positive blue or yellow/black is switched positive black is ground. yellow/white and yellow/grey are front speaker positive leads white and grey are front speaker negative leads. red is the power antenna lead. Depending on year there can be variations on this. You should always verify leads with a voltmeter. Unless you have owned the car from new you don't know if anyone has already messed with the harness.

Good luck,
