I tried without success to order this tool from the only two sources I know of in Melbourne Australia; a Volvo dealer and a Volvo service centre. The first has stopped taking order due to some re-organisation of tool distribution at Volvo and the second told me this tool has never been available in Australia. Both places gave me a price, but said none in stock.

Can somebody give me a pointer to what I can do. Perhaps I can order it through some overseas web site? I will consider sticking something into the engine as a last resource only.

Your choice. If you can't get the tool something will have to be "stuck in the engine"!

Google changing Volvo timing belt, if you haven't already, there is lots of advice on safe ways of doing it without damaging the engine.

The dealers in NZ always blame there is out-of-stock in Australia. I don't see they are not stocking anything. The parts are expensive and not available always.

eg

The caliper repairing kit costs NZ+gst ordered from sweden --

3rd -party costs $22 incl gst

Gearbox magnetic drain plug +GST ordered from Australia -- I gave up the magnetic bit, bought a bolt for only incl an aluminum washer
CPS takes 2 weeks to order -- bought it from the other shop took only one day for delivery same price
Oxygen sensor ordered from sweden -- I finally gave up and got it from a specialist shop

They are 100% stocks unavailable. Just simply wasting time.

Often true; yet strangely, it's always worth giving them a call "just in case". A pair of new gas struts for an S80 was $100 one time I called, and yet they wanted to sell me a

10cm piece of EFI hose for $60 or so ...
