Volvo V70 '97 registered (UK) - Anyone know how to reset the service light?

Does anyone know if you can reset the service light easily? The car's so old now it's not worth paying main dealership prices for servicing.

Thanks, John

There is a technique - which I think involves pressing the trip reset as you turn on the ignition, or somesuch. It has been described here in the past - maybe a year or two ago. A Google search with suitable keywords should find it.

JJH declared:

Press and hold odometer reset button.

Turn ignition switch to "run" position.

After SRL flashes, release odometer reset button.

Turn ignition off, then back on to confirm reset accepted.

Thanks, I saw that when it was posted and tried it - it didn't work!

I've just had a quick look at Google, and have found at least 3 variations of the procedure! I suggest you try each of these and, if none of them works, have another look at Google - there may well be others!

VARIATION 1 Press the odometer reset button. Then turn on the ignition, and wait several seconds. Watch for the idiot light to blink, and release the reset button. Worked for me, and my Volvo salesman advised me that I could do it without later repercussions. I have a '99 V70.

VARIATION 2 I think (haven't done this on a V70 in a while) that you turn the key to position 1, hold down the trip odometer reset button until the service light starts to flash, then, while still holding the trip button, start the car. Not sure.

VARIATION 3 Turn the ignition to the #2 position (accessory) hold down the trip meter reset button. While holding it down turn the key to position #3 (don't start) and continue to hold the reset button down until the service light begins to flash.

1996 to 1998 models require a special electronic tool to reset the service light.

Think about this, if the cheaper garage you are using for can't even manage to reset the service light, how can you trust them to service your car properly?
