Which tyres for S40??

Hi All

I have a volvo S40 T4 1999. I was wondering what peoples experiences, views, thoughts and opinions were on the various makes of tyres (such as michellin, pirelli, continental and others) and their pros and cons when driving with these, in terms of specific areas such as performance, wear, noise etc etc.....

All replies appreciated

Well, we could write a whole book about different characteristics of tires. Each tire maker produces a whole spectrum of tires, from general touring ones to max performance ones, plus winter ones of course.

Few general pointers:

- Long wear translates into poor(er) grip and vice versa.

- Stiff sidewalls translate into quicker steering response but less comfortable ride.

- The higher the speed rating, the stiffer the sidewalls.

- Most max perf. summer tires are generally louder than their all-season touring counterparts.

OK... I'll stop now and let others throw in their info... ;-)

As for your S40, well, my mother's V40 came with Goodyear NCT5 (205/50/16) tires stock. I don't drive that car much, but my general impressions are that for me, they could use a bit more grip, both in dry and in wet. For her - they're plenty - she's not a fast driver. If it was my car, I'd probably throw a set of Dunlops SP9000 or Toyo T-1S on there...

Cheers,

Pete

I´m the happy owner of a V40 T4 from 98 and I´ve been driving on Goodyear Eagle F1 tires since the first day. 205/45 16 ZR. The car handles great and I´ve had the car running full speed without any worries.Noise is normal and wear can be kept low by using the correct pressure. 35 Psi minimum. I run approx. 40000 km on each set.
