Wild Mod not Volvo but FUN!

I went to get my 850 inspected (in the states one must pay each year for an inspection sticker, it's a tax really but does keep the heaps off the highway. They check the lights, etc) And the kid at the gas station was busy working on his Mustang. He did my inspection and I had the chance to query him about his car. Turns out he has '98 Ford mustang he has put a 351cubic inch Ford motor in, and it's been bored and tweaked with a cam, etc, but get this, he is affixing DUAL turbos to the motor, he said they were turbos from an '86 special edition Mustang. I am not aquatinted with the model. At any rate, much fabrication was needed. What a beast! As I backed my 850 turbo out of the bay, I was just marveling at the prospect of this car. I shall follow his progress as it's only just down the street from me. He said he expects +/- 700 HP. I just want to drive it once!! It must be like riding a rocket! I LOVE fast cars, thanks Volvo for the 850 turbo!

115k really nice miles on my '96 850 turbo. If you get a chance buy one. To any naysayers out there regarding the 850, I'm sorry, but I LOVE mine.

Well I hear 96 was the best year, and that the 850 Turbo is a great car... not too many naysayers that I have seen about your model/year in particular.

Yea it would fine for drag racing, but the 850 will go round corners better, much lighter and better engineered. Although the older Volvos are renowned for their longevity because they are over-engineered. Problem is Engineers still don't know everthing and a bit of over-engineering is good.

Had a look /drive in a T5R with a view to buy, very sexy, quick and handled well but too much power for FWD the wheel spin just annoyed me. I prefer an innocent looking 940 with extra boost, lowered uprated etc.

I wonder how his transmission will respond to an extra 450 horsepower.

A fellow I work with took his '97 Camaro and put a purpose built 383 cid engine in it, it is supercharged. Running 10 lbs. of boost the car dynos

625 rwhp. There is no such thing as traction with this beast, it will gladfully and willfully spin the tires in first and second gears....you just have to back out of the throttle to get anything going....incredible!

For a fun mustang from one of our own Volvo performance nuts check out Hot Rod magazine November 2001 for Bill Watson's 535hp twin turbo 66 fastback. Bill has been a staple of Turobricks forum for years and put together a 302 that is so strong he has to back off his launch to keep from breaking into the 11 second 1/4 mile (they require roll bars at those times) it also gets over 20mpg with a high of 27 at sustained cruse on the highway. Very well thought out car by a guy that is a jet engineer with Garrett/Honeywell. With all the research and $$$ he put into the car to get to those levels and hold together I'd say the odds of a guy wrenching in back of a garage reaching 700hp and having the engine live very long may be a bit long. My cousin did the exact same thing with a simmilar era Mustang, but went for a HUGE supercharger. This thing puts out 600HP with a moderate amount of boosting and tweaking. He has taken it out to road-races before.

If he presses the throttle down more than about halfway, it blows out the transmission. Stock transmission - good for no more than

300HP. He's of course contempating a new transmission, but that would also require a new rear-end and driveshaft and...

Then what's the point? Why doesn't he lower the boost a bit?
