Windsield Wipers POSSESSED!!!

My windsield wipers will suddenly go on when they arent even in the on position! They will stay on until I restart the car, then go off. Other times even if I restart the car it stays on. They have a mind of their own. sometimes Ill be driving down the road and they just suddenly go on.

Maybe an electrical thing? My gas gage and heat gage dont work either

What make, model, and year is the automobile? How many miles?

__MAYBE__ an electrical thing!?!? If it isn't then you better lower the windows and leave the doors unlocked because huge volumes of split pea soup are about to flow from the face of the radio! Your freakin' car is POSSESSED!

Better than what happened to mine! In very windy conditions and in a downpour my driver's side wiper started working oddly. Had about another 30 miles to drive, and about three miles from home the left wiper pretty much stopped. Took it apart and found that no one had done any maintenance and the grease got hard and the arm broke in half! __ __ Randy & \ \/ /alerie's \__/olvo '93 960 Estate

I had the same experience with an '87 Saab 9000. Is there some standard maintenance for these linkages? Or is it something you are supposed to ignore until it breaks, always at a bad time?

No clue... I did remove the entire mechanism, clean it up real well, and soldered the broken part back together with a reinforcing piece of metal sistered in. Works fine now. I lubed it all before reassembling. __ __ Randy & \ \/ /alerie's \__/olvo '93 960 Estate

I usually keep cars for a long time, and I only had this problem once. So I guess I'll just keep hoping for the best.

Well of course - you only notice that it's broken when you try to use it

- which is when you need it.

Same concept as "you always find it in the last place you look". Of course. When you find it, you stop looking! Sorry for the rant.

If it broke in a light shower or when I was using the windshield washer, that would only be a bother. Both mine and the original poster's broke in a downpour. That also makes sense; it is when the wiper is working hardest.
