01 Jetta ABS brakes, car just in accident - problem?

2001 Jetta, 2.0l engine, automatic, with ABS. ABS light came on as did Parking brake light. Had to leave car for a few hours. Came back, started car, no problems. No indicator lights stayed on. Drove on bare pavement and snow/ice. ABS worked fine. Car was just in accident and returned to us a week ago. Left rear rotor and axle replaced. Also, left rear speed sensor.

Car is due for brake bleeding. Note, after ABS engaged on snow/ice or on bare pavement, the pedal went down further. It then recovered and did not repeat itself.

My guess is to bleed brakes?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The ABS and RED Brake light may come on if the fluid level is low. ABS will come on if there is a problem within the ABS system. Bleeding brakes, can't hurt but if the pedal feels find then it may be all for nothing. Suggest seeing if a fault is stored and any of the ECU's.

Well, great idea. Using Vag-Com, I came back with three codes, all say the same: Wheel speed sensor, Rear right, Rear left, Front right. 03-Mechanical failure intermittant.

Quick question: The Bently book states to use a grease (VW part no G000 650 or equivalent) before putting the speed sensor bakc into the bearing housing. Is this "electric grease". Obviously, my intent is to check and clean each speed sensor and the sensor rotors.

Thanks for the help!

We use the VW stuff but I think it's just to protect the sensor from getting corroded within it's holder. Besides cleaning the sensor also clean the speed wheel off
