1.6 golf 95 : ( - it has a mind of its own!!!

can anyone offer any advice before I take a trip to the garage?

i have recently aquired a lovely golf 1.6 1995. i was informed ?it plays up? the locking is random and the lock on the boot will sound like it is trying to unlock for about a minute after i am in the car, ..... i managed 200 odd miles thinking... its fine , but it then decided to:

shake quite hard on the left wheel area, whilst making a knocking noise. not accelerate when i wanted it to.. rev like crazy when i didnt have my foot on the pedal. also the handbrake light flashes randomly..

after being escorted off the motorway the RAC came out, said it was fine :( - can an electrical fault cause these problems?? ( since when did they make them computerised and electrised- i thought it was only houses that needed ?the electrics fixing?)

can anyone offer any advice please, so i have an idea when i take it in to the garage. thanks

Could be an intermittent ground.

, but it then decided to:

Ball Joints, Tie Rod Ends, or whatever VW used for them at the time - and potentially deadly. GET IT FIXED before driving ANY MORE. If you must drive, stay off highways and stay less than 25 of whatever units you drive in per hour.

See bad ground above.

Yep. At rest, the ground might be fine.

Two separate problems. Both annoying, one potentially deadly. One is suspension & steering related based on your description, one is electrical. And failing a bad ground, it could be a intermittent "hot" connection as well, even both. With special reference to the main engine & transmission grounds, and the battery connections - including the mare's of multiple connections to the + terminal.

Get them fixed.
