2000 Jetta GL - Power Lock Issue

Hello All,

It's been a while since I've posted, I hope everyone is doing well!

I've been having an intermittent issue with the power locks on my 2000 Jetta GL. Specifically, both driver side doors. The rear door is worse, but when it starts to act up the front door gets glitchy too.

At first, I thought that there might be something wrong with my remote/ key fob - but I'm pretty sure that's not it, now. What happens is that when I lock the doors and set the alarm (using the key fob), those two won't lock. Unlocking and relocking don't work using the remote, BUT - if you go over to the passenger side and use the unlock and lock function on THAT door, the driver side doors will lock after a few toggles. Using the key in the driver's door itself will lock it, but not the rear door (so, when it's acting up, I just lock the rear door manually by pushing the lock down).

But wait, there's more!

When this is happening, the alarm will set itself, even though the doors aren't locked! Furthermore, you can OPEN these doors (when they're glitching) and not set off the alarm!! This leads me to believe that there is some kind of sensor, for the doors, that's having an issue...

Ideas? Help? I'm hoping this is something easily/cheaply fixed...

Thanks in Advance, ~Mister.Lull

you most likely need a door lock (latch) assembly. these come with switches inside that get dirty. probably both malfunctioning doors need one. good luck.

And they're not cheap, better be sitting down when you ask the price.

With labor, the dealership charged me almost $350 to replace the driver's side front door latch.

Oh ho... Damn.

Well, I appreciate the heads-up anyway. We'll see what Uncle Sam wants to give me for my tax return and think about it.

He spent all that refund and another $200,000 like a drunken sailor. It is going to take you 40 years to pay off your debt if you get them to stop giving away money they do not have. What is the difference between slavery and the fed government? The fed only forces you to work for them for 4-6 months. Slaves worked for 12 months with no choice in the matter.

You can find salvaged ones for about $80 each on ebay. Maybe slightly more for the driver's one. I recently replaced 3 out of four for dead motors or glitchy sensors, also on a

2000 Jetta.

The fronts aren't so bad, but the rears are a bitch.
