2000 Jetta GLS AC Clutch

I used the ac on my car for about 2 hours while driving home one day. First day of the season that I used the AC. The next day the AC functions, but my car really hesitates when it is running. When I am on the highway I don't notice it so much, but in the city it seems to hesitate every second or so. I was watching the AC compressor while my car was idling and the clutch seems to be engaging and disengaging in 1 second interverals which explains the hesitation. I am taking the car in for service next week but I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and what was the repair.

Thanks in advance

Maybe low on freon.

Thanks for the response. It almost seems electical because of the pattern in which the clutch engages and disengages. The fans are also on the same pattern. One second on one second off.

Thanks again

If fans should run all the time that the AC is on, may also be the AC pressure switch. Is the AC cold?

The AC is cold. Tonight it actually stopped working completely and triggered the check engine light. I am taking it in on Tuesday for service, I just wanted to maybe have an idea when I drop the car off. I have had problems before with things not being fixed when I take my car in for service. Thanks again for the insight.
