88 fox thermostat replacement...help

I am trying to locate an online manual that will walk me through the procedure. It is my understanding that the water pump housing must come off..is this accurate, and if so is it a big job? Thanks in advance.

It is a little tricky on yours since it is close to the radiator, but it should be pretty straight forward and easy. I think I had to move one of the radiator cardboard pieces out of the way to do one of the VW Foxes to wiggle that thermostat cover off of the water pump housing. That was the tricky part.

What works well is a 10mm 1/4 drive swivel socket.

Hello Thermostat on a Fox should be simple. Follow the bottom rad hose to the water pump and you will see a plastic water inlet with 2 bolts on it. Remove the bolts and pull the hose. The Thermostat housing should come loose. Replace the thermostat the same way as you took it out and replace the O-ring.... DO NOT USE SILICONE. It will gum the thermostat up and you may end up overheating the engine. Kelly
