'90 Corrado water pump help

Hi - My 1990 G60 water pump disintegrated and I thought I'd change it myself. Has anyone done this successfully?

I removed pulleys, serp belt, power steering pump, timing belt cover, etc. - got all the water pump bolts out. Chilton's says "just move the pump to the side and pull it off" but maybe they never tried it, because it's not about to happen.

There's about 1/4" clearance between pump and timing sprocket; and one bolt coming from the BACK of the water pump that sticks out about

1/4", preventing the pump face from falling downwards. I've dreamed of cutting that off and then...(somehow replace).

Seems like my options now are:

  1. remove entire water pump by removing A/C, probably G60 charger and alternator first (?)
  2. remove the timing belt and intermediate timing sprocket
  3. cutting that stupid little bolt

Anybody have any thoughts? Done this before? I'm leaning toward door #2, but I sure don't want to remove that sprocket! (never done that, seems like trouble)

THANKS!!!!!!!!! Kent
