92 Jetta gl heater motor

Is replacing a heater motor on a 92 jetta gl a fairly simple job that a not so mechanical person can do? Is it a expensive job at a shop? Thanks for any ifo.

Yes and Yes! To remove it first you remove the glove box. Then there's 3 or

4 screws around a circle that the motor is mounted on. A rebuilt one for the son's X 92 jetta was $80 (a rip off). What's wrong with yours? What normally happens is the bearings dry out and cause the resister that supplies the less then high speeds to overheat and that cause the thermostatic fuse to open. Then you only have high speed. If this is the case you can remove and lube the blower and then take the resister out, it's right there also, and take it to radio shack and ask for the little fuse like thing mounted on the inside. They have them and if your lucky the "sales specialist" will know they're in the drawers with the other small parts. The first signs of a dry bearing is a squeek and if your lucky oil will cure it.

thanks for the reply. Mine was making a loud noise for awhile and then just wouldn't work...you can feel some heat but no blowing and there was a burning smell. A mechanic said the motor burnt out. Your info will be helpful.
