97 Jetta GLX tire change question

My son recently bought a 97 Jetta GLX and the tires need to be rotated. I told him I would help him do it. I groaned when I saw the lug bolts, but I got the plastic caps and all 5 bolts off 1 tire but it still wouldn't come off. Is there some trick to this? Also, is there a good place to put a jack stand after raising the car with a floor jack? Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the suggestion but I guess my jack question was vague. What I need to know is when the car is jacked up using a floor jack on the jack point, is there another spot strong enough to support the car on a jack stand so that I can remove the floor jack and use it on the other end of the car?

I'm still wondering how the heck to get the wheel off but I found out the VW dealer will rotate the tires for 22.50 so I'll do that this time.

You can support the car at a point just behind where the scissors style factory jack would rest, but it is not the best idea. The jack can slip if you're not careful. About the wheels, you can try this trick to get the BBS wheels to break loose from the hub. Loosen all 5 lug bolts so that they are threaded in, but loose and not seated against the wheel. Lower the car down off the jack, and drive it slowly and carefully back and forth in your driveway or street until the wheel separates from the hub. Jack it up and remove. You will probably see a lot of corrosion that can be cleaned off with a wire brush. Try a little bit of grease when you put the wheels back on.
