'99 Passat misfire

Said car has 80k miles and yesterday started misfiring bad upon startup (ran fine two hours earlier). Check engine light is flashing and emitting code P0302 (engine misfire on cylinder 2).

Tried changing coil pack for # 2 cylinder --no help.

Pulling wire from coil pack while running makes no difference in performance, so apparently the #2 cylinder is not firing at all.

Added a can of fuel injector cleaner tonight, but not holding out much hope. Happened too suddenly.

Amy thoughts out there?

Try with a spare spark plug outside the engine if it sparks to rule out the coil pack.

There's a power module mounted on the air cleaner housing with 2 electrical plugs on it. This item goes bad. Call your dealer and ask the current price... and when you fall over ask the dealer to order the Audi version which is about $160 vs. $300+. The Audi part number is 8D0-905-351 which is what's on my parents 99 Passat.

Well, the Huco part (ignition control unit) arrived in record time and went in smoothly (screws are a bit shorter due to profile of the unit) and the old Passat started up like new.

Thanks Woodchuck.
