A2 cruise control speed sensor

Greetz all,

I was digging around behind the gauge cluster of my '86GTI today to replace a dead lamp, and noticed the place where I was going to install the speed sensor from the cruise control from my old 86 diesel was already filled with what must be a speed sensor for the ECU. It did look like it had a place to snap another sensor on top of it, probably for the cruise system?

Is this correct or does the cruise control on a gasser pick up the speed from somewhere else, and if so where. I need to hit a boneyard to get the engine brackets for the servo since the ones from the diesel won't work, and if there's something else I need to grab, I'd like get it all at once.

Thanks MrEddy

That sensor is for cruise and/or the MFA only. The engine ECU on the CIS and CIS-E cars doesn't use a speed signal. When I retrofitted cruise to my '87 Golf I added the sensor to the back of the cluster. To get the speed signal to the cruise ECU I added a wire to the correct location in the big plastic connectors that attach to the bottom of the cluster.

Thanks guys,

It does have the MFA, so I guess I'll have to pull out the Bentley and have a look at the wiring diagrams for the wire location.

Now I just need the engine brackets for the servo.
