A2 fuel leak help!

89 Jetta 1.8 Digifant. Just put it on the road a week ago. All was well until last night returning from store I smell raw fuel.

It is leaking on top of the engine where the rubber fuel line meets up with a plastic(?) fuel rail. I thought it was just the hose, so I pulled it off and cut it back to a good spot and reattached. Still leaking.

Best way to describe it is the area where #1 injector would be. Right next to the fuel pressure regulator.

Is it common to have a fuel leak here? What is the likely culprit?

Thanks Paul '89 Jetta

This was a recall item for most Digifant cars (only the latest Digi A2s had the correct clamp). The clamp that VW used would allow fuel to leak after the hose "settled" on the fuel rail.

Early on there was a recall that the hose and clamp got replaced but my guess it's been done a long time ago. Your problem could be the hose, fuel rail or pressure regulator. I would start with a new hose and VW clamp first since that's the cheapest way to go.
