This goes to show you the INCREDIBLE superiority of German Engineering over American Engineering when a BONE STOCK Passat W8 has a higher top speed than a Stock C5 ZO6.

The Passat W8 is the Cousin of the Legendary Bugatti Veyron W16 after all.

Passat has much better gearing ratios and a 0.27 drag coefficient.

According to the top speed calculator, the 2002 Passat W8 only needs

411 BHP to reach 200 MPH, a Corvette would need at leas 550 BHP or more.

The Passat W8 is a family car and not really meant for the track. It's meant for Autobahn Cruising @ 155 MPH+. It's very front heavy and weighs 2 tons even though it's a midsize car in proportion. Volkswagen Autogroup makes other cars such as the Bugatti Veyron W16, Lamborghini Gallardo V10, Audi S6 V10 MTM, Audi R8, and Volkswagen Golf GTI W12 which will whoop any American car on the track.

Oh, I almost forgot one of the most legendary cars that VAG makes, the Audi TT Bimoto.

It's called a rev limiter you moron.

And the Bug's limiter was disabled.

You must be a high school kid with a Cabreolet covertable.

Go post on the Bug group.

You're a strange kid, Sal. Have you watched the videos? There's nothing in the VW video that reliably shows any speed indication. I can't get the Corvette site to respond at all, so I don't know about that.

But I'll tell you right now, that VW is not going 174 mph in that video. If it is, then there are two green vans that are doing at least 150 in that video, too. Lessee, with their aero drag, that would require... hmmm... carry the three... 6500 horsepower. To hell with the Passat and the 'Vette, I want one of those vans!

The reason that the Corvette hit the rev limiter is because its top speed is actually in 5th gear because it doesn't have enough power to go fast in 6th gear. The W8 would hit the rev limiter too in 5th gear. It just has the governor removed, NOT the rev limiter. The Top speed of the Corvette ZO6 is DRAG limited anyway, not governor limited.

Madre mia --why am I answering this?

Overdrive (6th) contributes to highway fuel economy, offers improved range, longer engine life and avoids a gas guzzler tax. It has proven successful in Corvettes (auto and stick) for over 20 years. I don't find that an undesirable quality.

Getting real: The W8, WRX have had some temporary fascination for sports car fans in this country since they are out of the ordinary. Not unlike the German fascination with low-end torque which spawned the Berlinetta -- a good seller in Germany for a couple of years.

:>What about the 650 BHP Golf GTI W12 Twin Turbo aka Corvette SS :>Killer?

You're trying to polish a turd. Corvette people don't like turds, polished or not.

Enjoy your VW. :)

The Volkswagen GTI W12 Twin Turbo is a legit MID-ENGINE SUPERCAR. The W12 Engine was actually originally designed for the VW 12 Nardo Supercar Concept that was made to destroy Enzos on the track.

Front Engine Cars like the Corvettes are mere PRETENDERS, real Super- Cars have MID-ENGINE SETUP. Why settle for a lowly front engine car when you can get a Mid-Engine Supercar for less money? Here are some images that what kind of beast the W12 in the GTI really is.

Why would anyone settle for a Front Engine car with understeer like the Corvette SS whent they can get a Mid-Engine Exotic like the Volkswagen GTI W12 Twin Turbo with Supercar manners on the track?

It's just crazy to even start compare NON-PRODUCTION cars to production cars. What was the Callaway Sledgehammer's Production run?

5000? 1000?, 50? Actually in its own category, the Sledgehammer Corvette is very slow, even electric cars in the NON-Production category are faster

Street Legal Cars are much faster.http://www.yourdailymedia.com/media/1161348277/Worlds_Fastest_Street_Legal_Car_-_2200BHPSince you're bringing up cars that aren't even production, I'll do onebetter. My souped up Volkswagen Nardo W12 does 306 MPH in Grand Turismo 4, take that Sledgehammer Corvette.
