Bad Dealer...BEWARE

Hi Everyone,

For those of you in the KW/Cambridge/Guelph area, be aware...a certain VW dealer located in Guelph sucks!sucks...big time!

We own a 2003 New Beetle GLS. Back in December, they replaced the radio, as it was cutting out and had allot of static. The dealer decided to replace the radio. At the time, the bone head that did the work didn't realize that the radio coming out of the car was a non-Monsoon unit. Guess what was installed??? A Monsoon radio.

Fast forward 2 months...I get a call from the dealer...they want to bill me for the difference in the cost of the radios because they made the mistake....they said failure to do so would result in my radio being removed from the car! Like it's my fault their technician screwed up.

As well, warranty repairs are always a hassle, as they can never reproduce the issues....when the glow plug light was blinking on my 2.0L GAS ENGINE Beetle, they said that there was no fault found...Hello!?!?!?

Finally, be wary about buying a Touareg from that dealer...I have heard from several people that there was a Touareg sold at that dealer that had been in an accident, sustaining $10,000 in damage, and it was not disclosed to the buyer.

I would tell them to kiss my ass about the radio. Its been how many months now they want to take it out. NOPE thats your radio now. If they touch it without a complaint from you reguarding such radio that is theft. So they can't touch it without your permission! HAHA!

I would propose that they replace it with the proper radio at their expense, and provide you with a car while it is in their shop. They should drop the loaner car off at your work and pick up your car. Otherwise they can pound sand. No reason for you to be inconvenienced in any way at all.

That is a federal offense now. The buyer should contact the state attorney general's office. Rex in Fort Worth

I think Pete is conspiring to conspire.

If it's those bastards on HWY6, I've heard a couple nasty stories about the service manager. I'd accept the new radio as a token of their appreciation. What's the difference in cost anyways? It can't be more than ripping it out and reinstalling another replacement nevermind the bay time that'll be lost.

Are they gonna hijack your car and remove the deck? Have they threatened to void the factory warranty or something?

Darryl.

Seems to me that he brought his car in because the radio wasn't functioning properly and the dealer corrected the problem and gave him back a car with a functioning radio. Period. (That's the story I think he should stick to anyway.)

Ah yes, the "head-unit blindness" defence ;-) Maybe Pete's driving around with the dealerships owner's deck!

It's amazing how eager a dealer is to correct a mistake that's in the customers favor, but less than eager to do so when it's in the dealer's favor.

Ok, I can't help myself at this point. While we are on the topic of "Bad Dealers" I'd like to ask the group what their experiance has been with Livonia Autoplex in Metro Detroit. I'll share my opinions and observations a little later, but first would be curious if any of YOU have any experiances.

**Hi Chris! Sales: I bought my first Jetta (a 2003 2.0l GLS automatic) from Livonia Autoplex in Feb. 2003. First off, everyone was quite nice. But, it was the biggest exercise in office incompetence ever. I walked in around 8:30 am clearly wanting a Jetta, not even wanting a test drive and, yet, I was there all day! Didn't leave until 6pm so I was hungry, tired, and a little pissed off. If I had known what I was getting into, I would've just left instead of being yanked around like that. Um, it also threw me because it was apparent that they didn't know a lot about the cars they were selling. I asked a lot of Jetta questions and got a lot of shrugs and blank stares.

What ultimately pissed me off? The right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing...at all! I spent forever just waiting for them to fax this little thing or write up that little thing. They had no damn idea what was on their lot which was way down the street away from the dealership. They seemed to desperately NOT want to sell a vehicle. It left me scratching my head, I thought: What the hell? Around lunchtime, they left me sitting there while they ordered pizza, then ate the pizza in a glass room right next to me. Essentially, they stuffed their mouths right in my face. That was obnoxious. Never offered me a thing despite keeping me waiting forever (yea, I know I mentioned that before and I can understand waiting for some things, but it became damned rude after awhile). I would've paid for some pizza, too!

I should've walked when I realized that they only had one Jetta 2.0l that was a manual (it was white and I didn't want white). But by the time that came about, it was fairly late in the day and most of the paperwork towards buying a Jetta was finally done. Also, I didn't walk because they offered bucks deluxe for my 2-yr-old Hyundai Santa Fe, paying off the rest of my loan plus giving me a large chunk of change that I put toward the Jetta. I was kinda amazed at that. So, the actual deal involving money (trade-in, car price, etc.) was pretty darn good.

Service: I've only had them service my Santa Fe, the Hyundai dealership in Ann Arbor is utter hell. Livonia's Hyundai service was pretty awesome as they would immediately take me in no matter what I called for. I don't know if VWs get that same service. One caveat: they would replace EVERYTHING, if they loosened a bolt, they ordered new bolts. This lead to me having to go back continually when something wasn't in stock and that's a waste of my time. Because Hyundai has a good warranty, there's money in replacing stuff even when it didn't need to be replaced. Some other stuff happened that kinda made me suspicious and, in a 3-4 week period, I had gone back 6 times with a potential 2 or more trips in the immediate future. Too much. That's why I bought the Jetta, so that I could go to Howard Cooper in Ann Arbor.

The 2003 Jetta 2.0l GLS? In October of 2003, I traded it in (and took a beating) for a 2003 Jetta 1.8T GLS (tornado red...yum! and it was a manual) from Howard Cooper's. I walked in around 4pm and walked out around 6pm with the new car. Sweet!
