Change "Throttle Valve Control Module" at 25K miles???

I have 25K miles on my 2001 VW PAssat (V6, GLS). The EPC warning and the Check Engine light came up & the engine wouldnt go past 20 miles/hr. The EPC light turned off after 2 days of parking and the engine ran fine, but with the check engine light ON.

Took the car to the dealer and they say I have to replace the "Throttle Valve Control Module" which costs about $910 + a few other things.

What do I do?? Anyone had this problem?

Please advise. Aaron

25k and no warranty?? That repair should cost you nothing out of pocket. I've had a number of similar problems with my '01 Jetta 1.8T. So far, everything has been covered (60k extended warranty, well worth it). But for an '01 isn't it at least a 36k warranty?

Ask your dealer if VW could help out some on the cost of repair?

I had that last year when it was cold (-20C) The throttle body got frozen and throw these same code (throttle sweep failed) The EPC light was on and so was ASR. They replaced the throttle body under warranty. This year the thing happenned again: -20C, EPC + ASR lights, etc. The lights went off after the warm-up and restart... seems like a very common problem. I heard that a lot of people report this stuff in the cold weather. As far as the cost... I am not sure... I am not going to find out either since I will not keep the VW out of warranty.
