We've had cold start and cold running problems (rough running, check engine light) for some time now and been to the dealer twice but it's still not fixed.
The first time they "adjusted the computer" ...my wife took it in...I assume they did a throttle body alignment. But that didn't help much. It tended to move the rough running from the start to about one or two miles down the road. The next time they found a bad plug and replaced it and it's a little better but still missing when cold.
Anybody got any hints? I searched the internet about 18 months ago for info because my daughter's 03 1.8T Jetta was having cold start problems (the dealer fixed that) and found that reflashing the ECU, throttle body alignment and replacing a bad thermosensor were common cures.
The dealer folks are really nice and treat us well, but they haven't been in the VW business very long, and I suspect their mechanics don't have a lot of experience. I'd like to see them replace the thermosensor just to eliminate that variable.
