Do it yourself moonroof?

Is it possible to make your own moon roof on a A3 Golf or am I just talking crazy. I'm thinking of modifying the roof by installing a tinted, sealed (can't open) moonroof. Is it possibable? What would I make it out of...plexiglass?

Thanks in advance.

Sure you could. 98.95% of them leak in the first week The rest just have not been in the rain yet.

You are correct, you are talking crazy. :-) This is not a good idea.

Of course it is possible, and there may be kits available for installing one, but if you have no experience in doing body work, you had better leave a project like that to the pros. Otherwise you could very easily end up with a ruined roof.

i'm puzzled as to why...what are the benefits of a moonroof that doesn' t open? it'd let in sun in the summer and the car would be hotter inside.

I would instead go get a sunroof professionally installed from a reputable outfit, such as

and you'll have one that's fully functional and won't (or at least shouldn't) leak. And if it does, it's under warranty for the first year or two. I had one put in my Eurovan and it's great. Only had one problem with it recently (about 2 years after installation) and it was just a loose ground connection, covered under the 3-year warranty.
