Drawing (photo) of A2 starter heat shield

I have an 85 Jetta with an auto tranny and am plagued with the heat soak problem. I've looked at hundreds of posts on this problem, and in my trusty Bentley, without finding a picture or drawing which will tell me if the guy who put my last starter in put the heat shield in. What does the heat shield look like, and how do you tell if you have one? (Besides the starter not working)

Also, did anyone ever post the actual wiring diagram for the boost relay? How many amps do the contacts have to pass? What size wire has been successful?

TIA,

Pat Moore

Just had mine off on the 92. I think you'll have to take a look under the car. On of the two top starter bolts had the shield attached and the shield curved around the area of the starter towards the engine and a little towards the exhaust. Might be different on yours.

Usually a heat shield is just a piece of sheet metal that provides a barrier from the heat. The starter heat shield should be curved like the starter. Usually bolts on with the starter bolts.

It covers 95% of the starter so it should be easy to see if you got one.
