Electrical Issues - No lights on the Climate control, alarm beep sporadic

Two weird problem cummulated together today, after going thru 3 weeks and ~$1300 in routine maintenance to my car... 90K service, tires, front brakes I was hoping I wouldn't be opening the wallet for a while, guess I didn't knock on wood.

First issue - last night my climate control lights went off, I played with the fan speed settings and they came back... same thing this morning.... and it kinda flickered and went totally dead..

Then I noticed my alarm "beep" came back - it hasnt come on since around November... coincidentally the same day I installed a VW CD player... The CD player works fine still, but after two uses of the locks the beep disapeared... i'm thinking while cleaning my car today I loosened up the trunk button, as it was my trunk that caused the sound to not come on a few times before the CD player install....

Anyhow, kinda disapointed, I'm guessing I need to remove my radio to get behind to the climate control bulbs/wires.... ? This should be a cheap and easy fix right?

mixed up the wires maybe on the radio install?

Rob,

The climate control is EASILY fixed!

Put the fan speed on #2, and with a pair of plyers, GENTLY pull the knob off. Now, use a piece of hose to pull the bulb out. Go down to VW and get a new one...plug it in and problem solved!

As for the beeping...

Your driver side door latch might be acting up...I have seen it happen before, and based on the fact that your Golf is an early A4, the fact that it hasn't failed yet is surprising. I wouldn't worry about it, if the red light is blinking, the alarm is armed.

You can disable the beep when you lock the doors....it's just a matter of changing the coding for the alarm system...I did it with our Beetle...it just got annoying...

coincidence,
