Leather in a Passat

I have an 02 Passat GLS V6 5 speed with the velour interior. I'd really like to put the leather in and heated seats in. Any suggestions as to how to get a correct interior and how difficult it would be. I have an 02 NBeetle with leather and heated seats and I've gotten a bit spoiled. Thanks David

Trade it in and buy a new Passat with leather. There's a shop in our area who charges $3000 for leather seats and door panels to match, but they never look as good as VW's leather.

My '97 Passat had leather added by the dealer as part of their "prep, accessories, etc."

For the dealer it was a great deal, because they were buying the vehicles from VW with the cheap interior package, paying a local shop to do the leather, and marking the whole deal up and adding it to the sticker price.

All of that said, the leather really looked nice when I bought the car. Over time, however, the bench parts of the seats have worn badly despite regular "care & feeding". The material that was used is nothing like as durable as the factory stuff.

Also, they did do the leather trimming of the doors and I do have to say that it still looks as good as new. The bad part with that, however, is that during the 1st year of owning the car, I had to take it back to the dealer about a half a dozen times for problems with the window mechanism or other things inside the driver's door. Taking those panels off, covering them with leather (which makes it significantly thicker in certain places), and getting them all to go back exactly into their original place "ain't as easy at it looks".

Suggest you keep it like it is and either learn to "love it for what it is" or plan on trading.

You're going to spend a minimum of $1000.00 for having leather added. A friend of mine did just what you want. He went to a local coachworks who then did a full custom installation for just over $1000.00. When done, it was absolutely gorgeous. Better looking than the factory. The guy is located in Nazareth, PA, and it's Sabatini Coachworks. So, if you in the area, check them out. The owner is Frank.
