Monsoon treble speakers

'03 Golf GLS. Monsoon (Premium VI) radio with CD changer prep (but no changer installed).

I was troubleshooting a problem with the bass speaker in the driver's door cutting out now and then, so I got to listening to each of the 8 speakers, one at a time (using fader and balance controls to suppress the ones I wasn't checking).

I noticed that, with max treble and minimum bass and mid-range, all of the treble speakers produce only a thin, reedy sound, barely audible with my ear next to the speaker and the volume control set 3 clicks above minimum (comfortable volume from the 'bass' speakers).

Is this normal?

I could argue that these speakers are only used for extreme highs and to fill in for sounds that would be lost coming from near your ankles; on the other hand I really expected to get a LITTLE more sound out of them. Tone controls all have the expected effects on the total sound.

Thanks, Chris Beall

They are not supposed to be as loud. They carry only the higher pitches. The door speakers carry the bulk of the music.

BTW, if you really do have hear>Ohh I already know i'm going deaf.... my right ear isn't as good as the left

OK, thanks. Based on all the comments here, it sounds (no pun intended) as if I'm getting what is expected from the speakers. My own hearing is still pretty good, left ear better than right on the highs. And the total sound is fine (when the driver's door bass speaker is working); I wouldn't have noticed anything amiss if I hadn't been trying to diagnose that problem.
