Need Cabriolet parts, advice

I think I just bought a Cabriolet - '88 or so. I was in a hurry somewhere and saw it by the side of the road, had a good top and no rust, and the guy didn't know anything about it. I always wanted one, and it was only $600, so I told the guy I'd take it, and the full implications didn't dawn on me until later.

Can anyone recommend any good specialist VW suppliers who specialize to any degree in Cabs? I did a google search and just found zillions of all makes auto parts bizs but none that were into Cabs specifically or had any Cab specific parts.

Also, any sites that have picture/specs that would help me figure out what year it is and what is supposed to look like? I realized afterwards it should have has some fender/rocker panel plastic that was missing - it has the hella euro grill and the late plastic bumpers, but nothing in between.

BTW I owned several Rabbits so I am not entirely ignorant (no fool for a bad car like an old mechanic as they say...) just new to Cabs.

(I figure I can still have room to back out, but want to belatedly research it a bit before I do).

$600 for an 88 is a great price don't back out. I paid $700 for an 81 rabbit convertible (about $200 to much but it was the cheapest that I could find at the time). This site should help you figure out the year.

I don't know of any Cabby specific parts sites (and I'm pretty sure I'd know about them by now) but here are two great A1 parts sites depending on which cost you live on. I've done a lot of business with both and both know there VW's and have fair honest prices

There is a Cabby group on yohoo that I belong to that's pretty good (and free)

and of course there the VW Vortex which now has it's own cabby forum

If you enjoyed working on the rabbits then you'll love the Cabby.

and of course this newsgroup is great.

I paid a lot more than that for my first cabriolet (87 $1100), then still didnt get good deals on the next two (one was totalled and one has no reverse) don't know why you backed out... the plastic crap and the tops are not so expensive to replace, ad they all go bad... if it;s still for sale you should post it here so someone else can get a good deal!
