Oil on the Spark Plugs.. Help!

My wife was driving her 90 Cabriolet the other day and overfilled the oil. Now the car won't start. I removed the plugs and all 4 of them were coated with oil. I put new plugs in but they too came back out covered in oil. I drained off about 1 quart of oil. The engine is a 1.8L with 180,000 miles. Will the oil drain back down and then I can put new plugs in it or am I looking at redoing the head? Any thoughts are appreciated.

My momma done told me.....

Why? Just clean the old new ones with TB cleaner and a wire brush.

Pour a tablespoon of kerosene in each plug hole. Disconnect the coil wire to the distributer (ground it) and crank the engine over 20 or so times to wash the oil off of the cylinder walls. IF it is a lot of oil it should come out of the plug holes. Pour another tablespoon of kerosene in again and crank it

20 times or so again. Leave the plugs out overnight and use kerosene to clean them. Gap them if you haven't already, that might be a part of the problem. People think plug's are pre gapped, they are pre gapped but since one plug can fit many applications they are gapped to a specific standard. Change the oil and put the plugs back in the next day, it should start. Don't forget the coil wire.

How much too much was put in? I bet what happened was the extra oil got into the breather system along with getting in the intake. Suggest drain the oil and start over, check the air filter for oil, then put new plugs in and drive it. It might smoke for a few days but should stop.

Always keep your oil level at the bottom of the cross hatched area on your dip stick if you have a lot of miles on your engine . Now clean all the breather and intake tubing, and the air box. Get new air filter and spark plugs. if your engine is newer keep it half way up the cross hatched area.
