Rambling about studded snow tires on an 85 golf.

I tried to purchase some snow tires on here last winter in Goderich , Canada , but lost out collecting the funds together. My rims rusted out on my 85 , progressivly over the years. I put on two tires last summer , at Sears and they said my rims were shot and might leak, Well they did. and one went flat in November. . I couldn't find any plain jane wheels new, anywhere, and the bone yards wanted $40 for junk VW rims. The tires had 3000 miles on them , When I was in Canada , getting my toyota rustproofed, Walmarts had regular black wheels for every car, because of their snow issues up there. They were about $55 canadian, and cool snow tires, with carbide studs. I didn't have enough money for the purchase , in case my car broke down and I needed a tow, so I passed. I figured I'd get them if I made it back across the border. But they aren't available here, everyone wants to sell you trick crome $100 jobs, and not sell two snow tires, because of some lawsuit. I found the tire rack on the internet and they sell packages. So I ordered two studded snows and new steel rims. and got them and they looked so cool , They did hassle me about buying two also. But the car looks good!!!The wheels were silver and look like racing wheels,. So, I ordered two more to match, with studded snow tires too. Well, all four sound like chainsaws going down the road and I think my 85 Golf is getting lighter because the rust is shaking off..!!! But I look cool now. So I figured I better stop and wait for some snow before the city starts making me replace all the concrete I'm tearing up. So, I'm driving my Toyota I didnt want to drive in the snow.. It snowed hard, and I swear to you I cant get the VW with four snow tires to spin out unless I'm going scary fast. Yea it slides a little, but I forgot how much fun snow tires were. Its like on rails , full speed ahead or full stop, NOW. Sparks a flying!!!!Bounding all over the place. I,m waiting now for that A hole snow plow driver, to plow my drive in, so I can blast through that mess. and finally make it. I used to park on the street, and then they get pissed off and bury my car in, so I would put it in the driveway. Then they bury my driveway too. I been waiting 10 years to make it over that mess without having to dig for two days to get the wheels back on the ground, off that pile. Or I,d have to drive another car left in the street, after I dig it out, and wait for the pile to melt, until the wheels touch again. Well, now I got a fighting Chance!!!! Let the battle begin..!!

You mean they don't have laws prohibiting studded tires? They do here in Minnesota - mainly because the asphalt roads were getting grooves dug into them (or so I had heard anyway). They banned them back in the late 60's, I think?

If your in Godrich, ON then you are not allowed to use studded tires. Even though you get tons of snow. I'm an hour away from Godrich and we aren't allowed to use them in Ontario period...
