Reasonable price for A/C repair?

'95 Passat GLX VR6... I had my first repair quote on A/C, won't have a chance until Monday for the second....

I was quoted "around $1000" for compressor and receiver replacement and recharge...seems a bit steep to me, but then again it's a pain to get to the compressor..

Those that have done this, how does that price sound? Thanks!

Most are made in Japan for VW on the newer car.So it works like this

Japan sells it to Germany VW pays a German to repackage it into a OEM box A German must toss the Jap box out not to think Honda parts are around Germany ships it to VWoA VWoa must make it's profit The dealer make 30%

A few years ago we got a 2.0l ignition coil from VW which still had the paper inside showing what they paid for it. The coil listed for $150 and VWoA paid $30.
