tire size and suspension bottom out

i recently changed my 95' Passat VR6 front tires, from 205/50R15 to

205/55R15, but found the front suspension bottom out very easily. Is this an issue with the "slightly higher" tires, or is the suspension is wearing out (being a 9yrs car). If the latter, will changing the front springs fix the issue? or i need to change both the springs+shocks? Also, if changing the springs only, can i just change the front springs and do nothing at the rear? any past experience are welcome.

I don't think it's the tyres. Check the shockabsorbers. Springs dont't wear out in 9 years, under normal use.

Good luck with the car. René Golf GT 1.8 16v 1982 Vento GT 2.0 1994 Scirocco GT 1.6 1981 (just sold)

I suspect it is a strut/shock problem. Your new tyres may be a little heavier and that could have caused a marginal suspension to have more of a problem, but it should not do it with a good suspension. Have the struts/shocks checked/replaced. Get good ones.

I'll say it's the tires. On the 205 50's, the profile is 102.5 mm whereas with the 205 55's it's 112.75 mm. I doubt replacing the stock springs will help. Maybe try some of those inserts that stiffen the suspension (try Canadian Tire) so the body doesn't bottom out on the tires.
