Warning re VW of Naples

Please be aware of the abusive treatment I received from VW of Naples FL and by their sales manager. There are two local VW dealers and many Florida dealers. One of the two local dealers believes in competing with the others; the Naples dealer believes "this is Naples." Not only was I faced with a totally non-competitive price (a "market premium" was added to MSRP only by the Naples dealer), but when I informed the dealer that the price was non-competitive and thus my purchase would be elsewhere I was threatened. "We only service cars we sell. Why should we service you if you go elsewhere? And if you bring your car here for service it will come out worse than when it came in." When I protested to the manager I was greeted with expletives and called an 'asshole'. Somehow "this is Naples" is able to justify artificially high prices, arrogance, and poor service. I cannot believe that this is the attitude VW wishes to display to customers.

Doesn't sound any different or worse than any other VW dealer in North America.

It might be that you really are an asshole since you really didn't need to tell him that his price was not competitve because he probably already knew that.

I would have just thanked them for whatever price they decided to give me and then left on a good note without saying any more.

You need to understand that it is his right to give you a non-competitive price and it is your right to buy the car somewhere else. Its that simple.

Are you from Massachusetts by chance?

So what's your problem. He just told you he does not want to be your dealer. So don't use him as a dealer. You really don't want to use him for service anyway so you have lost nothing. Just keep saying to yourself, there is no dealer in Naples.

Life goes on, you don't need to waste time with him.

But he doesn't know that you know that.

Why? Tell him he's losing business - he was obviously embittered by the fact. It must have hurt.

True - and it's his right to tell the guy he's a rip-off, just as it's his right to curse him out for telling the truth.

note that this is cross posted... cause I just read this in the watercooled NG...

But... correct me if I am wrong, your aircooled VW is a VW too??? I don't go to the VW dealer here for new VW's... I go there for my 66-87 VW's... and the 66 doesn't have any water in it... cept maybe some on the floorboard!

That's ridiculous. I was treated very well by VW of Smithtown NY when I bought my Passat. They let me test-drive the car by myself when they were too busy to talk to me right away, then gave me a reasonable price with no hassle.

Some are good, some are bad. But more often than not they seem to be bad.

I did. A German-built Jetta, bought brand new. It still stands as a tie for my single worst automotive ownership experience. The tie is with a

1980 Lincoln Town Car. Neither car is likely ever to be knocked off the dubious "worst car" podium in my records, either -- they were both equally *that* bad.

It is. I have run into some OK some not OK and some very good. So I guess I can, with some authority, say there are good and bad. What authority do you have to say they are all bad?

right... so aircooled VW's are not VW's... that's good to know... maybe that is why I sometimes have difficulty getting parts for them at the VW dealer... but normally I have no problem... so I wonder why a VW dealer would sell aircooled VW parts...

lissack... definitley DO NOT waste my time telling me about VW Dealers on the aircooled VW newsgroup cause aircooled VWs are not VW's and therefore we do not care if the VW dealership treats their VW customers like crap.

BUT... if you want to drive up to Gainesville FL or Ocala FL we have a nice VW dealership here, that for some unexplained reason sells aircooled VW parts which Still in Primer was so nice to inform me are NOT VW's. and I happen to know that the people there are really nice and have competitive pricing... I dont know of a salesman to talk to as I only buy parts for my non VW aircooled VW's and my A1 watercooled VWs (are those VW's?, they must be cause they aligned one of them for me once, and I buy parts for them there all the time... but then that doesnt count for aircooled VW's, so maybe the only real VWs are the ones for sale there at the dealers lot and as soon as you drive off the lot they dont count as VWs anymore) there. But they were always nice when I wanted to test drive cars or get any info on the VW VW's...

In my opinion you SHOULD post to this [ramva, i know you cross posted to the other VW newsgroups as well, but that is looked down upon] VW newsgroup when you have problem with VW dealers, cause in my book, aircooled VW's are still VW's and I buy parts for them from the dealers and recommend people in my town to take their cars to the dealer for service since there are no trustworthy independent VW shops in the area. This affects watercooled VW owners as well and the [non VW] aircooled owners. Thanks for the heads up on this dealer...

floorboard!
