Hi Everyone

Please help

Have an engine light on right now... mechanic says it reads

""system too lean Bank 1 Code 171 (p)""

What is it and how to fix it

This is a 97 explorer sport with 105k 6 cylinder 4.0l engine that runs real strong and has been properly maintained.

One cause for the P0171 (as well as P0174) on the SOHC 4.0L is leaking lower intake manifold o-rings. The problem was common enough for Ford to extend the warranty on them to 6 years, or 72K miles which ever came first. If your

4.0L is the SOHC, then this is one possibility. Expect to pay around $300 to have Ford fix it. There are many more reasons though that can cause this so the only way to know for sure is to run further tests.
