2000 F150 power door locks not working

A while back, the passenger side power door lock stopped working with both the key fob and the door switches. It barely moves when you push either buttons. Thankfully, I can still operate the locks manually. Now, the driver's side is starting to do the same thing. Has anyone experienced this same problem? Is this a maintainence issue or am I looking at power door lock actuator replacement as one my next weekend activities? Thanks in advance for any help. Motorcity

I need the same question answered about the power door locks not working just as in the e-mail. Mine happened all at once to both doors, but still the same thing. Just a few days ago, the driver side power door lock stopped working with both the key fob and the door switches. It barely moves when you push either buttons. The same thing has happened to the passenger door later that day. Thankfully, I can still operate the locks manually, but barely. Has anyone experienced this same problem?

My 2000 model did that also. Door locks got real sluggish with remote or door switch. Started with the drivers door and then the passenger door started to do it also. Sometimes they would move a little and other times not at all. After enough complaining to Ford dealer they replaced both lock actuators under warranty and they have worked great since. They mentioned something about moisture getting into the connections on the actuator and the terminals corroding....

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Well, I'll jump in but I am not a mechanic and this would be purely a guess.

The chances of both motors going out at the same time in a possibility, but probably not. One motor going out and causing the other to go out could be a realistic possibility since you said one went out just after the other. They are both the same age and have been exposed to the same conditions.

Another thought would be something limiting the current. First, of course, would be the fuse (#26 a 20 amp). If one motor had shorted or something, it might have caused it to go out. You might see other indications of this, check your owner's manual for common items or just check the fuse.

Have you noticed any other electrical problems like dim lights or buzzers that don't really buzz? The battery in my truck just went out and yours may be getting weak. If not weak, possibly bad connections limiting the current from corrosion or bad grounding. As someone mentioned, corrosion in electrical connectors can limit current flow. If you have the RAP module (Remote Anti-theft Personality), it is common to both doors.

Does it make any difference how much electrical load is on the vehicle when you work the locks?

Does it make any difference whether you are locking or unlocking the doors?

Do you remember the switches getting wet lately from a rain shower or something?

If it was me, I would start with the fuse and then move to the Switch (drivers side) or motor, whichever is easier to access, and check for corrosion and voltage, and freedom of motor movement. Some oil or other lubricant in a motor that is binding may release it.

I found out that it is the door actuators after all and if one goes the other one is soon to go out also. Ford has replacements at $54.95 each. They are the same part number whether it is the right or left door, but you still have to specify which door and then look on the actuator itself to determine which door it goes to. It will be marked RHD or LHD. Ford will try to sell you new window guides at $89./door, you don't need them. Don't let them talk you into it. The actuators have a different design so they will look different but they do fit and work as they should.

I have the same problem w/ my 99 SuperCab. Can someone please post instructions on how to change out actuators?

Thanks!
