Whats going on with my Jeep!!!!

Heres the problem. Runs ok in the morning. Can make it to work. Afternoon, sputtering, stalling, intake backfiring, no acceleration. Almost did not make it home from work today. Corrective action I took, new map sensor, plugs, cap, fuel filter, coil, oxegen sensor. What the hell is going on with this thing? Injectors? timing? fuel pump? I did get a fault code for lean mixture, but thought it was the CO2 sensor. Apparently not. I don't know what to think.

Thanks, Greg

After you replaced the sensor, did you clear the codes? Disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes and reconnect. Then drive it, sometimes takes awhile to clear them.

Why didn't you replace the plug wires? Vehicle age says it needs them anyway if not already done.

Clear the fault codes and look for that lean mixture one again.

You might also want to post the ambient temperature range where you are driving to see if that is contributing to what sounds like a classical manifold leak or vapor lock.

It's still time to replace them. Vapor lock on a FI system with a return line? Possible, but low on my list. You don't want to be too confident that a code means what it says, either.

.

Wires were replaced a year ago. Reset the computer. Temps here are 80s to low 90s during the day. I live in northern Illinois. Nothing extreme.

Thoroughly inspect all the vacuum lines connected to the intake manifold. Check for vacuum leaks in the TB base, or manifold to head gasket.

Ok I get all that, but why does it run ok in the morning, and after work it won't get me home?

Does this happen regularly or just happened the last time? Also, this might be related to the amount of fuel in the tank. If the fuel pump screen needs cleaning or is about to quit, it works with the tank full but when the fuel level drops bellow a threshold, it starts to cut out.

Bill Spiliotopoulos.
