My '99 GT has engine trouble

I have a 99 GT (130k miles) that started making a noise right around the front of the engine by the harmonic balancer. The noise sounded like the timing chain was hitting the front engine cover. It got louder and louder as I drove it.

I took the cover off to see what was going on. I found that the plastic guides seem to be ok the tension in the 2 chains seem fine. However, their is a sprocket with teeth that appears to not have anything attached to it in the very front. After further inspection it seems to be a little loose. After moving(wiggle) it a bit it makes a noise similar to what I was hearing. My question is: Does anyone know if this sprocket is supposed to be a tight fit?

I bought a new Cobra and I want to sell my GT.

Thanks in advanced for any information..

The "sprocket" is the "indicator wheel" and supplies crankshaft position to the PCM via the CKP sensor (look closely and you will see one missing tooth). They do not fit real tight, usually just being a slip fit and being held tight by the balancer. A good first choice for diagnosis would have been to run the motor after removing the FEAD belt (front engine accessory drive) and recehcking for the noise.
