Daylight Running Lights Questions....

First thing, I have a 2000 Grand Am with 68k on it. Now for the questions, the DRL's aren't working, what would cause this? And, do they(DRL's) run from the headlight bulb? I went to Autozone and they said it's a different bulb, so I checked and all the bulbs are lit, expect the headlights. The headlights do work at night.....Thanks in advance

Ed,

Have a look in your owner's manual, page 2-42. There is no seperate bulb for the DRL. The control unit runs the headlights at reduced power.

Perhaps the control unit is not working.

In case you are missing your manual, here is a link to a PDF online.

Before you go ripping out the control unit, check your high beams. The

99-04 Grand Am DRLs run the high beams at 50% power, in series. If one high beam filament on one bulb burns out, neither DRL will light, yet the low beam headlights will continue to work. The BCM might also throw a code and light the SVS indicator on your dash.

If you turn on your headlights, click the high beams on, and find one bulb doesn't light, that's your problem. If both high beams are fine, then it probably is a faulty BCM.
