1.4 k-series idle speed

Hi there, My '96 414 1.4 16v needed a new o2 sensor to get through its MOT, and now the idle speed has gone up to nearly 1100rpm - the Haynes manual says it's not adjustable, so how is it corrected? many thanks, Jamie

i think its unlikely that replacing the oxygen sensor has afected this, probably co-incidence, however check for air leaks around the inlet manifold and vacuum hoses, any leak here will cause your engine idle speed to rise. the idle speed is indeed not adjustable, even via the ecu, instead controlled by the ecu itself. steve.

The tickover speed can be adjusted, but only by a Rover Service Tool attached to the ECU. Your local dealer should be able to do this in 10 minutes

yes and will cost you a fortune. You might be better to try other garages first. These tools are available and more and more garages are using them along with computer technology.
