2014 Range Rover Evoque takes off-roading to an urban level

The 2014 Range Rover Evoque went undercover in Frankfurt, picking up VIPs and taking them on a surprise urban off-roading adventure. And much to our delight, hidden cameras were there to catch the whole thing.

If this was a new marketing ploy for Land Rover, we think it worked. Not only was it effective in showing off the contemporary style of the Evoque, but it also showed the VIPs Land Rover?s the all-terrain performance first-hand.

The unconventional road route featured a series of obstacles that no ordinary car or SUV could combat. Steep gradients, inclines left and right, and loose surfaces were just some among many driving hazards.

The updated 2014 model year Evoque features more enhanced technology, including a ZF-9HP automatic transmission (replacing the old six-speed ZF unit) and an ?on-demand? active driveline, designed to offer more agility and better fuel economy.

The on-demand driveline operates in front-wheel drive mode during steady state driving above 22 mph. The new system is also able to activate four-wheel drive in milliseconds when necessary.

Torque vectoring braking is also a new feature in the 2014 model, available on all versions of the Evoque. It works by redirecting torque among the four wheels to counteract understeer.

The Evoque will also be equipped with Park Exit Control. This advanced system allows the car to automatically exit a parallel parking spot autonomously. Closing Vehicle Sensing and Reverse Traffic Detection is also available in the 2014 model, warning drivers of oncoming traffic.

The 2014 Evoque will also get a bit of a cosmetic makeover, with original paint and wheel options added to the list of new features. View the attachments for this post at:
