Can 2.5L V6 be replaced with Opal 3.2L V6

Several parts stores now claim to have a new 3.2L Opal engine that supposably is fully compatiable with the 2.5L V6 used in the 94-97 NG900's. They claim that the engine is a direct fit, and since the engine controllers are self learning, there is no problem with the larger engines.

Has anyone out there actually installed and used one of these engines in their Saab? It would be good to get away from the timing belt and the oil sludge problems that the 2.5L is noted for, but I'm not sure of the risk involved due to the motor controller.

Haven't actually done it, this is the same motor you get in a Caddy CTS standard-version.

Their claims are more or less correct, only the internal dimensions of the bore/stroke are different (believe it's only bore, but don't hold me to it) and outside everything is identical.

Unless your 2.5 has kicked the bucket by spitting out it's timing belt, I really wouldn't worry highly about it. You would see improved horsepower tho, from the stock 2.5l 170hp to about 210 (3.2 stock is

220, however I think the 2.5 intake could restrict it somewhat).

You can also fit a 3.0 litre from a Saturn LS, VUE, Saab 9000 or 1st gen Cadillac Catera > Several parts stores now claim to have a new 3.2L Opal engine that
