I'm thinking of buying a 9-5 (Aero, manual), but I'll be moving to the Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario area soon, and I'd like to get some sense of the quality of service available, dealer and otherwise. Anyone out there had any relevant experience? I notice that in Canada, Saab dealers are routinely amalgamated with Saturn and Isuzu. Don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing.

Isuzu no longer, at least not the local dealership; they're Saab and Saturn only. As far as I know, Canada's Saturn dealer networks were carrying Isuzu only to get their SUV offering so that they would have something SUVish to sell. With the introduction of the Saturn Vue, and the upcoming Saab SUV (whenever that arrives), they no longer need the hassle of carrying the extra brand.
I also would be interested to hear about others' experiences at the local KW dealership; I have replied off-list to Steve already, and my report was that I find them slightly above average in customer service, but only average when it comes to the repair-work itself.
However, my sample size is not all that large; can anyone else with more experience in these matters provide more/better data points?
I have been driving a 9000 in Ontario for 13 yrs and have found the dealer to be "expensive" and quality of repair to be average. Nothing to brag about. Thats the good news. Try getting it serviced somewhere else.......when it comes to saab, most garages can hardly tell the front from the rear. I went to a radiator shop to get the system flushed and replace my block heater. They brought the new power chord plug out over the top corner of the signal light assy so when they closed the hood, the pressure on the plug broke the light assembly. They stated that they were not liable for damage. They also said I needed a new serpentine belt and that they could do the job. They went to the dealer and picked up a new belt and then proceeded to tell me that it would be expensive as they would have to remove all the mounts and jack up the engine. I cancelled the work and took the belt to the dealer. The dealer refused to install my "supplied part" so I had to pay for another one off their shelf. Now Im really saving money. At Midas they had a little bolt trouble, they couldnt seem to get the muffler flange to line up properly with the cat conv so they welded it together. Its a little scary to see some guy coming on to your beautiful car with an acetaline torch and a 10 lb hammer. At a drive through oil change place, they broke off the dipstick in my gear box and the proceeded to tell me that they did not have the proper transmision fluid for my car. I responded by asking them how they could run an oil change specialty shop without any 10W30 oil. As for the brakes, only a die hard saab entheusiast knows about the little hex screw that retracts the rear caliper. I have learned that the best guy to do most of the regular maint on my car.................is me!
