hello looking for some comments and opinions. I have a 90 legacy that seems to have a broken gear or something were the half shafts go by the trans. 2 shops want 1200-1400 to repair has anyone had this happen. when you try to go forward it sound like someone has a chunk of metal and you can feel it clunk very hard. auto trans 4x4 127k miles body fine engine runs great

Don't know the specifics of your tranny, but I saw a newish one that had a problem with 3rd gear, the tech replaced the gear, beaarings and central diff, but it was under warranty. Easiest & cheapest is to get a used tranny from a wrecker. Ed B.
