Do O2 Sensors only fail one-way?

Is it just coincidence that EVERY single thing I read about Oxygen Sensors online indicate that when they fail or become faulty, they will always produce a voltage that is too low, and therefore cause an engine to run Rich?

Has it never happened where a bad O2 Sensor caused a Fuel Injected engine to run LEAN, and not RICH!!?? Is this so far fetched or something? Can't a failing O2 Sensor ever cause false readings towards the higher side of the .45 voltage median?

My sisters car has had a problem for a long time now where it "feels" and drives like an engine running LEAN, but the O2 Sensor is always indicating RICH about 70% of the time, causing very low Injector on-times etc. Sure it's good for her gas-mileage, but not much else.

Anyone have some input for me?

THANKS!:)

No, I think it's probably because you're getting your "knowledge" of O2 sensors from the same sources of "information" that you used to get your "knowledge" of the ramifications of gasoline octane level.

Well, seeing as I get my "knowledge" from idiots like you that reply to Auto Repair forums, because they feel THEY are never wrong, I understand why.

You're basically insulting every other person that answers questions on this and every other Car Repair Forum, because THAT'S where I read this shit.

But of course, you should already know that, just like you know everything else. I for one am SO grateful to have you on this board!
