  1. P0024 — Engine timing (service now). The exhaust camshaft on bank 2 is further advanced than the engine computer commanded. Valve timing is out, which disturbs combustion rather than merely reporting a fault.

Checks to do first, in order

  1. Check engine oil level and condition immediately — low or contaminated oil is the most common cause and the one with the worst consequences.
  2. Stop driving if the engine misfires badly, the warning light flashes, or you hear rattling; unburned fuel reaching the catalytic converter destroys it quickly.
  3. Inspect the bank 2 oil control valve for sticking or clogging.
  4. Have the camshaft phaser and timing chain inspected if oil supply checks out.
