  1. P0087 — Fuel and air metering (service now). Fuel rail pressure is lower than the engine computer commanded. The fuel system cannot keep up with what the engine is asking for.

Checks to do first, in order

  1. Expect hesitation, loss of power under load, or a stall; plan journeys accordingly until it is fixed.
  2. Check the fuel filter first — a restricted filter is the most common cause and the cheapest to rule out.
  3. Have fuel pressure measured against specification with a gauge rather than inferred from the code.
  4. Inspect the fuel pump and, on direct-injection engines, the high-pressure pump and its drive.
