  1. P0500 — Vehicle speed (service now). The vehicle speed signal is missing or implausible. Depending on the vehicle this can affect the speedometer, cruise control, transmission shifting and stability systems.

Checks to do first, in order

  1. Note whether the speedometer is also affected, which helps separate a sensor fault from a signal-distribution fault.
  2. Inspect the speed sensor connector and wiring.
  3. Check for related transmission or ABS codes, which often share the same signal.
