Checks to do first, in order

  1. Treat unexpected stalling or limp mode as likely; avoid journeys where a breakdown would be dangerous.
  2. Check the module's power supply and earth connections before assuming the module has failed — poor grounds cause this far more often than dead processors.
  3. Check for water ingress at the module, which is a common cause on vehicles where it is mounted low.
  4. Have the module tested by a workshop; replacement usually requires programming to the vehicle.
