What this means

  1. P0740 — Transmission (service soon). The torque converter clutch circuit is faulty. The converter may not lock up, which raises fuel consumption and transmission temperature.

Checks to do first, in order

  1. Check transmission fluid level and condition first.
  2. Look for shuddering at steady cruising speed, which often accompanies this.
  3. Have the solenoid and its wiring tested before assuming the converter has failed.
