Re UK Trooper Have meter..

ploggo.. have several meters digital and analogue even and old avo. but would`nt know where to start without diagram regards peter J

First test is very simple Put the meter across the battery whith engine stopped It will read 12 volts.Then start the engine With it idleing it should read between 12 and 14 volts At idle this can be variable.Rev the engine to around 1500 the voltage should climb to 14.5 volts if all is well. If not replace the alternator. See easy

Good on yer not many of us left with a good old fashioned Avo hang on to it ave you seen the price compared with fluke @ RS Any way the advice that you have already been given is basically correct & will establish that the alt has an outout,though not necessarily the correct one have you tried ?? & what were the results ??
