C/R 30 C/K3500 differences?

Hi all,

I'm, looking at buying a 1987 Chevy Silverado 1-ton dually pickup (454 TBI). On the title, it says model 'R30'. I though 1-ton trucks were known as 'C3500's? Is C/R 30 just another name for C/K 3500s, or are there differences?

Confused, and any help greatly appreciated!!

Thanks, Nick Talbot

In the late 80's and early 90's (before the change to the 'new' '88 bodystyle was complete), the C and R were both 2wd trucks, and the K (and I forget the other one) were the 4x4's.

"C" has been the moniker for 2wd for since I can remember, "K" being the same for 4wd. The R/V monikers were designated to the Doolies and Suburbans. Had an 88 2wd 3/4T a few years ago. Check the owners manual, that should 'splain all. Cheers, Tim sends

Nick Talbot babbled forth:

For 87-91, the "old" body style trucks (Blazer, Suburban, and crewcabs) were called "R" (2wd) and "V" (4WD) while the "nww" body style trucks (pickups, ext cabs) were still "C" (2wd) and "K" (4WD).

30 = 3500, depending on Chevy vs GMC vs phase of the moon, yes. I thought the 1500/2500/3500 came into use around the early 80's for GMC and a bit later for Chevy, but "R30" would look like a 2WD 1-ton for 87-91 to me. (My 90 GMC Burb is a V2500, i.e. a 4WD 3/4ton.)
